JEANS FOR GENES DAY

Children and staff at Bright Kids Nursery in Studley, Warwickshire, TLCNursery in Eaglestone, Milton Keynes, Little Acorns Day Nursery inMirfield, West Yorkshire, and Gladstone Park Pre-School, BeechesPre-School and Tiny Tots Creche in Peterborough, donned their favouritepair of jeans to mark Jeans for Genes day on 2 October. Bright Kids(pictured) and Little Acorns both held flower-themed events and faceswere painted as characters from children's television programme 'Fifiand the Flowertots', which features the official mascot for Jeans forGenes Day.

BEACH PARTY

Kiddi Caru Day Nursery in Chelmsford, Essex, held a Hawaiian-themed'beach party' to celebrate the setting's fourth anniversary and raisemoney for one of the children who suffers from a rare chromosomedisorder. Children and parents at the event also had the chance tohandle some visiting exotic animals, including an Indigo snake.

ON THE TRAIL

Staff, children and families from Langbank Playgroup in Renfrewshirevisited Finlaystone Estate in West Renfrewshire to take part in anautumn nature trail. They took a walk in the woods with one of therangers, who taught them about different types of leaves and helped themcollect bugs and slugs. Staff report that despite the rain, everyone hada brilliant day and worked up a great appetite for their snack.

GARDEN PARTY

Parents and children were invited to Kids at Heart Nidderdale DayNursery in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, to celebrate its fifthanniversary with a garden party. The event raised 645 for StMichael's Hospice in Knaresborough and Lepra, a medical developmentcharity.

HARVEST GIVING

Children at Alphabet House Day Nursery in Lowdham, Nottingham, have beenlearning about the harvest festival and why we celebrate it. As part oftheir topic, children donated a basket of goodies to St Mary's Church,which were distributed to the sheltered accommodation centre inNottingham.

AWAY WITH GERMS

Germs and how to avoid spreading infection have been under scrutiny atBlue House Day Nursery in Croydon, Surrey. Staff used glitter tosymbolise germs as they showed the children how germs can spread quicklywhen we touch anything. Children also had another lesson in how to washtheir hands thoroughly to keep the spread of flu to a minimum.

LITTLE EINSTEINS

Nursery chain Little Einsteins, which owns settings in Tayside andGlasgow, has opened its seventh nursery in Pollokshields, Glasgow. Thenew Nithsdale House Nursery will cater for children from birth to fiveyears and will open for 52 weeks of the year.

Photo of the week: Sixteen-month-old Leila Mackay has some way to go tocatch up with the height of sunflowers grown at Kiddi Caru Day Nurseryin Burgess Hill, West Sussex. The sunflowers planted by the childreninclude one that is over seven feet tall. Staff say that all thechildren love the sunflowers and have paid great attention to caring forthem.
