Thrilled to dance
In tribute to Michael Jackson, children from the out-of-school club atConeygarth Farm Day Nursery in Haxey, near Doncaster, re-enacted theKing of Pop's 'Thriller' video. Children as young as four took part inthe production and dressed up as zombies. Their efforts raised 150 for the Comic Relief charity.
A week of Safety
Childcare settings across the country took part in the Child AccidentPrevention Trust's Child Safety Week from 22 to 28 June.
Local firefighters showed their equipment at Busy Bees Nursery in StAlbans (above), while a policeman explained the features of his vest tochildren at Hatton Hill Day Nursery in Windlesham, Surrey (below).Representatives of emergency and safety services also paid visits toHayward Nursery in Maidenhead, Berkshire, Little Acorns Day Nursery inGomersal, West Yorkshire, Crocus Early Years Centre in Saffron Walden,Essex, All Saints Children's Centre in Chatham, Kent, and DolphinNursery in Bracknell, Berkshire. Parents joined children at Busy BeesNursery in Burntwood, Staffordshire, to hear advice from retailerHalfords on fitting child safety seats in cars. Children from DolphinNursery in Bracknell, Berkshire, made their own visit to a localbuilding site to learn more about health and safety in a big way.
Environmental art
Children from Midcounties Co-operative's six nurseries took part in anart competition to mark annual World Environment Day on 5 June, based onthis year's theme 'Your Planet Needs You, Unite to Combat ClimateChange'. Arinne Fatum from John Radcliffe Nursery in Oxford won in theunder-threes category and Blake Francis from Blackbird Leys Nursery,Oxford, won in the over-threes.

A new guide from the Blue Cross pet charity explains the boundaries thatshould be set out between children and dogs. Be Safe with Dogs alsohighlights the benefits that come with owning a dog and shows why it'simportant to consider situations from a dog's point of view. From story to stage
Tall Stories Theatre Company is bringing popular children's book Room onthe Broom to the stage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from 5 to 31August.

The Cobra is one of many yoga positions taken up by three- tofive-year-olds at Happy Child Day Nursery in West Ealing, London.Nursery staff deliver the sessions themselves and say that the childrenreally look forward to learning new poses, exercises and relaxation andbreathing techniques, which build strength and confidence.
