Healthy Choices

Bishopswood Day Nursery in Reading has received a Healthy Choice Awardfrom South Oxfordshire District Council, in recognition of the nursery'simpeccable standards of hygiene and the healthy meals provided. Nurserymanager Barbara Ashley said, 'We are very proud to have received this.All our foods are sourced from our local butcher and greengrocer and alldietary needs are catered for, as everything is cooked daily.'

Easter fun

Ragamuffins in Worcester and Nursery on the Green in Frimley, Surrey,set children the challenge of making their own headgear to wear inEaster Bonnet parades, with the prize being, unsurprisingly, chocolateeggs. Children and staff at Busy Bees Nursery at Glenalmond in Perthmarked Easter with a visit from an animal farm. Their event includedfundraising activities and all proceeds were donated to the CysticFibrosis Trust, Busy Bees' charity of the year.

Waddle in the woods

Monty the Duck, the mascot of the Meningitis Trust, joined children fromthe Farmyard Nursery in Battle, East Sussex, on a sponsored 'toddlewaddle' through nearby woods and fields, for which they had madethemselves duck hats. Their efforts raised 800 for the MeningitisTrust.

Preventing accidents

To mark Child Safety Week, 22-28 June, the Child Accident PreventionTrust is calling for anyone working with children and families to signup for a free resource pack, which includes an information booklet and aChild Safety Week poster. This year's theme is Safer Together and theCAPT is aiming to bring together a range of people working with childrenand parents to share their experiences of accidents. Children at Skylarks Daycare in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, have beenenjoying their new willow dome, which was purchased with equipment grantfunding. Within its first week as part of their outdoor provision, thechildren variously turned the willow dome into a rocket, a quiet areafor reading, and the Three Little Pigs' stick house.
