Children from Warsash Victory Hall Pre-School in Southampton werevisited by Troy the Tawny Owl from the Hawk Conservancy Trust inAndover. His keeper, Gareth Tonen, told them about Troy's diet, naturalhabitat and the behaviour that he would display in the wild.
Double Award
It was a double celebration for Weyhill Montessori Nursery in Haslemere,Surrey, as it received its Montessori Evaluation and Accreditation Boardplaque and the following day was awarded an outstanding rating byOfsted.
Hearts of Biscuit
Children at Footsteps nursery in Farnborough, Hampshire, madeheart-shaped biscuits with the nursery's chef, which they sold at anopen day to raise money for the Make-a-Wish charity for sickchildren.
Outstanding Bears
Burstead Bears Nursery in Billericay, Essex, has been rated outstandingin its recent Ofsted inspection. Inspectors commented on the nursery's'exceptional understanding of the individual needs of the children inits care' and 'the high priority given to children's safety'.
Singing and Signing
The children at Little Stars Nursery in Didcot, Oxfordshire, took partin SignHealth's Sign2sing world record attempt last month. In total, 47people from the setting took part in the event and raised more than90 for the deafness charity.
Hearts of Oak
Staff at Elvetham Heath Day Nursery in Fleet, Hampshire, extended thechildren's interest in life cycles by teaching them about the life of anoak tree. They read the story The Life Cycle of an Oak Tree andencouraged children to re-tell the story by drawing pictures on a giantroll of paper.

Elephant in the room
Educational supplier TTS is offering visitors to the Education Show(17-19 March, NEC, Birmingham) the chance to win a Wild and Wonderfulpapier-mache elephant, worth 129.95. Entry costs 1, withall proceeds going to Comic Relief. The draw will be at 3.30pm on 19March, at the TTS stand.
Skydiving for mums
The National Childbirth Trust is inviting adrenaline junkies to do atandem skydive and help raise money to support thousands of mothersacross the country on or around Mothers' Day (3 April). The charityhopes that around 50 supporters will be skydiving at designatedairfields and raise more than 10,000 to help new and expectantparents with the challenges they face.
