- Hopes Fulfilled

Hopes and Dreams Montessori Nursery School in Islington, London,celebrated its tenth anniversary with a party at the Grange City Hotelwith more than 80 guests, including Mayor of Islington Barbara Smith.The nursery, which opened with just five members of staff in 1997, nowhas 35 employees and holds several awards, including NDNA's QualityCounts and Investors in People, as well as an award for its organicmenu.

- Eco Celebration

Greengables Nursery and Cowgate Under Fives were among settings inEdinburgh that celebrated their success as Eco Schools at an event heldat the Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters at Gogarburn, where childrengave demonstrations of their environmental and sustainable projects.There are now 202 Eco Schools in Edinburgh that have achieved bronze,silver or the top Green Flag awards.

Candidates considering a career in childcare in Wales could find theinformation they need on a new bilingual DVD from NDNA Cymru thatincludes interviews with practitioners in nurseries and Welsh mediumearly years groups, childminders and out-of-school clubs. - Hive of Activity

Childen can learn about bees and the insect world while playing a freeinteractive game developed by scientists from the Royal EntomologicalSociety and based on the new Dreamworks computer-animated film, 'BeeMovie', which will appear in cinemas next month. The film tells thestory of Barry B Benson, a graduate bee from New Hive City who sues thehuman race for stealing bees' honey. The game, 'Into the Hive', islinked to learning at Key Stages 1 and 2 and includes ideas forclassroom activities and outside learning. - Meaningful Presents

Sending enough blankets for a whole nursery in a refugee camp in thedeveloping world could be another way of extending the Christmas spiritthis year, with a donation to Present Aid. Other gifts includetraditional hula hoops for children in early learning centres supportedby the Thandanani Children's Foundation in South Africa, which workswith families affected by HIV.
