In Northern Ireland the term classroom assistant means a person who is trained to work with children. I am a classroom assistant, having obtained my NVQ level 3 four years ago. I find that sometimes I am put in the position of teacher, especially when a substitute teacher is in for a period. My wages differ greatly from those of the teacher I work with. I think it is about time we were properly rewarded for the work we do.
