New fund to get more men into childcare

The Scottish Government has launched a new fund to encourage more men to enrol on childcare courses.

Colleges across Scotland can bid for a share of the £50,000 Men in Early Years Challenge Fund to run pilot projects aimed at increasing the number of men enrolling on NC (National Certificate) and HNC (Higher National Certificate) Childhood Practice courses.

Currently, just four per cent of Scotland’s early learning and childcare workforce are male.

Similarly, in 2016-17, of the 1,793 students enrolled on the HNC Childhood Practice course, just four per cent were men.
