Make sure you have two of each musical instrument. Distribute them to the children, asking them to sit back-to-back in two lines. Make sure that each line has the same range of instruments. Point to one child and ask him or her to play a short piece on their instrument. The children in the opposite line should listen and, if someone thinks they hear their instrument being played, then they should join in and copy the tune.
Numbers Galore
Give each child a musical instrument and allocate a number to each group of instruments, for example: shakers (one), drums (two), scrapers (three). Choose a piece of music with a good rhythm and ask the children to play their instruments while moving to the music. When the music stops, call out a number. For example, if number two is called out, the children with the drums group together, play their instrument and shout out, 'Numbers Galore!'
