Quarterly data show there were 106,500 providers offering 1,509,600 places at the end of September.

There are now 12,600 full day care providers - an increase of 200 since figures were last published in June. This has increased the number of full day care places by 10,400 and continues a trend which has seen places for all-day care rise steadily since 2003.

The number of childminders has also risen to 71,100 but is still down from 71,900 this time last year.

Out-of-school providers have also recorded an increase of 200 to 10,200, while the number of creches remains steady at 2,600 settings.

Sessional care shows the only decrease. The number of providers has fallen by 300 and places have fallen by 7,800 to 244,200.
