- A nine-month-old stray puppy called Barney has been named as the latest 'Blue Peter' dog, reported the BBC. The crossbreed was given to presenter Helen Skelton by the Dogs Trust after being taken to one of the charity's re-homing centres. Dogs Trust chief executive Clarissa Baldwin said its staff knew straightaway the 'charming little pup' was 'destined to be a star'.

- A Buzz Lightyear toy has become the longest-serving astronaut in spaceafter spending a year on the International Space Station, said the DailyTelegraph. Video footage of his adventures show Buzz going to sleep withan astronaut who lets go, causing him to float away and hit a wall, andBuzz and another astronaut flying. NASA said the video will be used inan educational outreach effort for children.
