Health minister Bairbre de Bruin said that by introducing the Bill she was 'fulfilling a commitment contained in the (Northern Ireland) Executive's programme for government'. She added, 'It is our duty to do all we can to protect children and vulnerable adults from those who would seek to do them harm.'
The Bill aims to strengthen and extend the current vetting arrangements for people seeking to work with children or vulnerable adults. One of its key features will be the creation of statutory lists of people considered unsuitable, who will then be disqualified from working with them.
