John Smethurst Children's Centre is the tenth to be opened in the borough of Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire. Built through extending of John Smethhurst Nursery School, the centre cost 800,000 and provides 68 places for three- and four-year-olds and 12 places for under-twos. The guest of honour at the official opening ceremony was Gill Smith, a former pupil of the nursery school and a retired teacher, who unveiled a commemorative plaque in celebration.
