Victoria Park Children's Centre in Edinburgh was a setting in which 'children's learning could thrive', according to last month's inspection report. Staff were sensitive to children's needs and redirected them very carefully where necessary.
The inspectors found the relationship between the centre and parents was 'outstanding'. Parents were welcomed in and made good use of the room set aside for them, and were encouraged to take a full part in the life of the centre as valued partners in children's care and education. The inspectors commended the introduction of a focused and systematic process of self-evaluation.
Stenhouse Children's Centre, in Edinburgh, where half of the 24 children have special educational needs, was also praised for creating a caring and secure environment. Staff encouraged the children to develop self-confidence and independence and carefully planned activities to meet their individual needs.
