Parents and carers have been advised by the Food Standards Agency not to let children eat certain mini-cup fruit jelly products that contain Konjac because of the risk of choking on the sweets. The sweets have a number of different brand names, including ABC Mini Fruit Bites, New Choice Mini Fruit Gels and Rolin Mango Jelly Cup. The products have been linked to a number of choking deaths around the world, but none have been reported so far in the UK. Suzi Leather, FSA deputy chair, said, 'The weight of evidence clearly indicates that these products present a risk to children. They should be removed from the market immediately. However, they are on sale in many corner shops and it may not be easy to ensure that they are all removed from shelves straight away.'
