In brief...Role of a children's commissioner in Northern Ireland

The possible role and responsibilities of a children's commissioner in Northern Ireland is the subject of a poster campaign to generate the maximum public response to a consultation document called Protecting children's rights, which is due to be launched today (Thursday). The commissioner's duties are expected to include monitoring child protection systems, investigating children's rights and welfare, provoking debate on and research into children's issues, and monitoring developments in Government policy for children and young people in Northern Ireland.
