Parents with children at Friockheim Nursery in Arbroath need never worry about running out of games to play, thanks to the nursery's home lending scheme. Parents can choose on a weekly basis from a range of activity packs emphasising rhyming words, recognising shapes, counting, matching and sequencing. Nursery teacher Karen Kennedy said, 'The packs encourage parents to extend the children's learning.' Other bright ideas at the nursery include its pirate project, in which the children filled a treasure chest with mementoes and buried it, to dig up again in 2008 when they reach their final year at primary school (News, November 1).
