Four council nurseries in Ealing, London, closed for a day last week when nursery workers held a one-day strike, organised by Unison in support of a fair pay and grading claim against the local council. The 46 workers have taken on new responsibilities since a reorganisation in 1996 but their pay has not been reviewed in more than 11 years.
