The House of Commons Library has updated its briefing paper, published last month, on Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport in Schools to now include the APPG’s report on Primary PE and Sport Premium.
Published in February, the APPG’s report looked at how schools are spending the Primary PE and Sports Funding and recommended head teachers be more accountable for how they use the investment.
The APPG on a Fit and Healthy Childhood is co-chaired by Baroness Floella Benjamin and has members from across the political parties.
It follows the recent publication of the Government’s School Sport and Activity Action Plan, which included suggestions from the same APPG report including a review of initial teacher training to ensure teachers have the right training and development to deliver high-quality PE lessons.
Helen Clark, chair of the APPG on a Fit and Healthy Childhood's working group, said, ‘We are absolutely delighted to be credited in this important House of Commons Library document.
‘We are now hoping to secure meetings with the relevant Government departments and ministers so we can help to ensure that the new School Sport and Activity Action Plan is the very best that it can be – instead of another disappointing misstep that will not benefit children to the full extent.’
