Forty per cent of primary schoolchildren in Northern Ireland have been bullied, while one in four admit to bullying another pupil, research by the University of Ulster has found. In secondary schools the figures were 30 per cent and 28 per cent respectively. A spokesman for the province's Department of Education, which carried out the study of 60 primary schools and 60 secondary schools, said, 'This research demonstrates that no school can afford to be complacent and that every school should be implementing a strong and effective policy which creates an anti-bullying culture among pupils and staff.'
