Find your name

Foster independence and encourage name recognition with this simple routine. Resources

Resources

Coloured paper or card, felt tipped pen, laminate or sticky-backed plastic, Blu-tack, a small open-topped box.

Step by step

* Make name cards for every child in the setting, using first names only.

* Laminate or cover with sticky-backed plastic to make them more hardwearing.

* Stick the name cards on a wall above a low table that has the drinks and box on it.

* Instead of having a set time for drinks, allow the children to get their drink within, say, a set hour. Before they take a drink they must take their name card off the wall and put it in the box, showing that they have had their drink.
