There are 10,000 after-school clubs in England and Wales, but 20,000 primary schools and only one registered childcare place for every seven children. The National Institute of Economic and Social Research found that childcare employers regularly lose up to 30 per cent of their staff each year, which is the greatest threat to the sustainability of childcare businesses.
