Eco-friendly children's opera

An eco-friendly children's opera will involve 2,000 three-to six-year-olds at primary schools across North Ayrshire over the next few weeks. The children will play the part of a group of voles forced from their homes by gigantic bulldozers, who take part in a journey under the sea and into the treetops to help the Song Thrush find her song and fly. The opera, called 'Auntie Janet Saves the Planet', has been devised by Scottish Opera for All in partnership with North Ayrshire Council. Its aim is to raise children's understanding of the richness and diversity of their natural heritage. Scottish Opera for All has produced a detailed teachers'

pack to help teachers prepare children to take part, including a CD with guide vocals for songs that the children learn in advance of the performance, a storybook to introduce the characters to the children and a range of classroom-based activities.
