Double standards

I am a registered childminder writing in response to Maggie Dyer's two recent letters to Nursery World (15 March and 12 April). I would like her to know that some of us have taken her first letter in the spirit intended - to highlight to the Government how ridiculous it is being by, on one hand encouraging childminders to be positive role models to teenage mothers and, on the other, allowing childminders to smack children and smoke in front of them. What sort of double message does this give?

Well done Maggie for your witty and ironic observation, and for opening the opportunity for further debate on this serious issue. I for one will not be putting a 'price on your head', but let's hope the Government gets the message soon.
