Children's Skin Irritants

Wooden toilet seats and harsh cleaning chemicals are causing irritation to children's skin, according to researchers from the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Maryland.

To prevent the condition 'toilet seat dermatitis', they recommend that wooden toilet seats be replaced with plastic ones and that cleaning products containing skin irritants such as phenol or formaldehyde be avoided. The research is published in this month's issue of the journal Paediatrics.
