Children urged to donate dinner money on poverty day

Children at schools throughout the UK are being encouraged to bring a packed lunch with them to school and donate the cash they would usually spend on food to raise money for deprived and vulnerable children abroad.

The ActionAid charity's Child Poverty Day on 17 October aims to help provide the poorest children in less developed countries with access to clean water, food, healthcare and education.

Fundraising officer Andy John said, 'In a nation that spends millions of pounds on readymade sandwiches and fast food lunches every day, simply donating the cost of one lunch can make a huge difference'.

He added, 'By giving ActionAid your "dinner money", you can help some of the world's poorest children get access to the food and education they deserve.'

The international development charity hope that the attention they receive will persuade local and national governments to provide children with school meals and free education.
