Children at early years centres in St Helens, Merseyside, will be sitting pretty for many summers to come thanks to an innovative project which uses natural structures such as willow trees to create shaded areas in playgrounds. The Partners in Shade project is funded by Merseyside Health Action Zone and is being led by Ruth Strong, who was involved in the first project of this type in nearby Sefton and who said, 'Once the sites are established, they will be maintained by staff, children and parents. Come autumn, we hope to get people involved in willow weaving!'
