Case study

Tony and Jacqui Gernon are set to open their third Happy Jays nursery - their second to be designed and built from scratch in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. 'Jacqui went into the business as a mid-career decision to do something different,' says Tony. 'She did a full-time course and part of that involved placements in existing nurseries, where she came to the conclusion that she could do something better.

'The Scarborough nursery building - our third - will have room for 70 children and will be completed in April, so we open from May onwards. We have used Redworth Construction, based in Malton, which has a record of building nurseries and nursing homes throughout the UK.
