The qualitative research project, conducted by SkillsActive research and development manager Beth Fowler, began last month. She said, 'This is the first time that children in playwork settings have been asked their views specifically on the skills and qualifications of the staff.'
For the first phase, Ms Fowler will speak to 50 children at a range of local authority, voluntary and private settings - three out-of-school clubs, an adventure playground and a holiday play scheme.
At each setting she will hold small discussion groups, role play and practical activities, including collage and painting, all designed to gain children's opinions. Questions will include: What do you like about the people who work here? What do you think they should be good at? What is the difference between the people who work here and your teacher at school? The completed report will be published by SkillsActive in April.
