'Why would you want two heads?' asked Rizwan, her best friend.
'So I could think twice as fast!' replied Emily.
Up to now, Rizwan was the best jigsaw maker. 'How fast could you finish this bird jigsaw then?' he asked, pointing to the one with the most pieces.
'In less than a minute,' boasted Emily. 'I'd use one of my heads to think about the puzzle, and the other head to watch real birds in the trees outside.'
'Oh,' said Rizwan, as he went off to practise his jigsaw skills (with just the one head).
'I wish was an alien,'said Emily to her dad at home later that day, 'then I could have three legs.'
'Why would you want three legs?' asked Dad.
'So I could run three times as fast!' replied Emily.
Emily's dad was always the best at running when they went to the park or the beach.
'How fast could you run from this end of the garden to the other, then?' he asked.
'In less than a minute,' boasted Emily. 'I'd use one of my legs to run at the front, the next to run in the middle, and the other to run at the back. I'd be like a caterpillar rippling along.'
'Who'd want to be as slow as a caterpillar!' called Dad, as he wentoff to practise his running (with just the two legs).
'I wish I was an alien,' said Emily to her big sister, Naomi at bathtime, 'then... could have four wings.'
'Why would you want four wings?' asked herbig sister.
'So I could fly right over those boxes,' replied Emily. 'I'd be as light as a bubble.'
Naomi was always the best at jumping when they played their obstacle course game. 'How high could you go with wings, then?' she asked.
'As high as the stars,' boasted Emily, and Naomi went off to practise her jumping skills (with no wings whatsover).
'I still wish I was an alien,' said Emilyto her best friend Rizwan, when she arrived at nursery the next morning,'then I could have five hands.' 'You'd look silly,' said Rizwan. 'Anyway, I've just finished that bird jigsaw faster than you could, even with two heads.'
'With two heads and five hands,' replied Emily, 'I would be able to do it in half a second.'
Rizwan thought it might be easier tobe best friends with an alien than a girl who wanted to be one.
'Anyway,' continued Emily, 'with five hands I would be able to do all the things Dad asks me to in the mornings.'
Rizwan looked puzzled. 'What things?' he asked.
'Well, I have to eat my breakfast (so... need one hand for that), then clean my teeth (that's two hands),' explained Emily, 'brush my hair (that's three), grab my bag (that's four), and...' 'Yes?' said Rizwan.
'And I need a fifth hand for picking my nose!' Emily said. 'Though I don't think Dad has ever asked me to do that.'
Rizwan giggled, and wandered off to practise his nose-picking skills (with just the two hands).
