I am writing in reply to the letter 'NNEB still valuable' (Nursery World, 1 June). I gained my NNEB 12 years ago and have worked as a nursery nurse and teaching assistant. Hull City Council has recently made changes as to how jobs in schools are graded. Teaching assistants are now given a level 1 to 4, depending on duties, experience and qualifications. A nursery nurse can now be known as a 'teaching assistant level 3', therefore losing the title, role and status previously linked to NNEB.

Jobs are rarely advertised as 'nursery nurse', and my NNEB, for which I worked so hard to achieve, does not stand out as a qualification in the same way as it once did.
Would teachers allow this to happen to their jobs and qualifications? I think not.
