They were due to spend a weekend in New York, and were planning to book their tickets at a travel agent's on September 11. But after the terrorist attacks, they decided to opt for Venice in October. 'It was such a different experience, basically you hardly see any cars. We stayed in a very posh hotel, went in a gondola and loved to stand on the bridges watching the postmen and dustmen work from their boats.'
Jackie, who works with children aged three to 18 months at the Mount Vernon Day Nursery in Northwood, Middlesex, will have been with Child & Co for 11 years this October and can expect some kind of reward for all her further years of service.
