A 9 per cent rise in the cost of cost of holiday childcare is hitting families as schools break up for the summer holidays, according to a new survey by the Daycare Trust. The average weekly cost of a place for a child in a summer playscheme is 73.71. Some parents in the south-east of England are paying up to 220 a week for summer playschemes, or more than 1,300 for the six-week holiday period. The Daycare Trust compiled the figures from a survey of 113 Children's Information Services. Two-thirds of the services surveyed said that parents were finding it difficult to obtain affordable quality childcare for the full six weeks.
