Pedagogy outdoors

Inside-Out Nature, a training company based in Denmark and run by Jane Williams-Siegfredson, is offering Open College Network accredited courses in developing outdoor practice, which link with the EYFS, Scotland's Early years Framework and the Welsh Foundation Phase. The pedagogy is taken from a Scandinavian philosophy which is child-centred and democratic, requiring practitioners to be self-aware and reflective.

The level 1 course, Understanding the Learning Environment in Early Years Settings, and level 2 course, Supporting Learning in the Outdoors in Early Years Settings, involve two and a half days of direct teaching and 15 hours of supported self-study. At level 3, the Outdoor Practitioner/Pedagogue in Early Years Settings is designed for those who already have a good experience and knowledge of child development, and involves three days of direct teaching and 20 hours of supported self-study spread over six months. Residential study courses in Denmark are also available.
