Free Childcare for Training and Learning for Work is a new Government scheme starting on a national basis from 1 April. A total £75m of funding has been allocated over three years with a view to assisting 50,000 workless parents with Ofsted-registered childcare. While this tackles the child poverty agenda, it will also have a direct impact on the sustainability of childcare.

KEY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The parent undertaking learning must:

- be out of work;

- have a partner who works for 16 hours or more a week and have a household income of £20,000 or less in the previous tax year;

- be 20 years old or over when learning starts;
