New EYE course launched by Steiner this month

The two-year part-time course will be offered as a Level 4 Diploma in Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood Studies (Early Years Educator).
It has been co-devised and quality-assured by education charity Crossfields Institute, and accredited by awarding body CACHE, and will be delivered at centres in Regents Park, London, and York, with residential teaching in Gloucestershire and the Midlands.
Lynne Oldfield, director, London Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood Studies, said, ‘The training emphasis rests firmly upon child development with the understanding that curriculum development begins first with a deep understanding of age-appropriate principles and practice. ‘
She added that the course ‘acknowledges the significance of creative play and an unhurried and unpressurised approach to the sensitive early years of childhood - i.e. from birth to seven.’
The course places ‘equal value upon the personal development of the teacher with training in music, movement, speech, painting, drawing, handwork and crafts’ she added.
The Level 4 is achieved after the successful completion of 16 mandatory units taken over a two-year (approx 960-hour) part-time programme, incorporating placement visits, monthly sessions and biannual residential placements.
There is no exam and the course will be assessed via a portfolio and work-placement assessment, along with at least a hundred hours spent on placement.
Students with the qualification can work in a Steiner Waldorf Early Years setting as a group leader.
The course follows the launch of a Montessori version of the EYE in September. Cache, Pearson, City and Guilds have all developed versions of the EYE course, which replaces all previous standards for level 3 early years qualifications.
London Steiner Kindergarten Training Company is developing a work-based level 5 course with CACHE, to be launched in early in 2015.
