Men in the Early Years website goes live

Thursday, May 9, 2019

The Men in the Early Years (MITEY) campaign has launched today with a new website and charter for settings to sign up to.

The Department for Education funded campaign is being led by the Fatherhood Institute. Its aim is to increase the number of men working in early years settings, as well as provide support to men already working in the sector.

The new MITEY website includes a charter for nurseries, pre-schools and childminders to sign up to, pledging their support for men in the early years.

David Wright, owner of Paint Pots Nurseries in Southampton, Shivum Kakkad, director of Puddleducks Nurseries in London, Northumberland County Council’s childcare development consultant Theresa Iley and Acorn Early Years Foundation’s HR manager Kieran Glackin, are among those that have already signed up to the charter.

Visitors to the website can also download MITEY’s 10 myths about men in the early years, which is designed to stimulate discussion within childcare settings.

A number of free resources for men, careers advisors and others in the early years sector will be added to the website throughout the year.

Nurseries, pre-schools and childminders can sign up to the MITEY website to receive updates about the campaign including news about the national conference-taking place in September, and opportunities for training and online support.
