8 June 'Archive Hour - Thalidomide: Forty Years On'

In the late 1950s and early 1960s pregnant women across the globe reached for a recommended remedy for morning sickness, resulting in 10,000 babies being born with disabilities caused by Thalidomide. This powerful programme draws on archives from the UK, Germany (where most Thalidomide survivors live), Australia and Canada to tell the stories of families who had babies without limbs and what happened to the children as they grew up.

10 June 'The Musical Storybook'

Five schools - St Laurence's Primary School in Greenock, Methodist College in Belfast, St George's School for Girls in Edinburgh, St Stephen's Primary School in Deptford, south London, and Plashet School in East Ham, London - participate in a project to create a musical storybook of five companion pieces for Prokofiev's 'Peter and the Wolf'. These five 15-minute programmes feature Muslim and Hindu girls who have never acted or spoken in public before, and children from a Glasgow council estate, who have never played an instrument, suggesting musical ideas and improvising them for the soundtrack.

CS Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has become one of the most enduring and well-loved children's books, but it was originally disliked by the author's great friend JRR Tolkein, and Lewis shelved it for nearly ten years. Francis Spufford and biographer Walter Hooper discuss the history of the creation of the book.
'The Hunt for Britain's Paedophiles'

Paedophiles are one of the most emotive issues in Britain today and opinion is divided on how they should be dealt with. But the importance of the police knowing who paedophiles are, and how and where they are operating, is clear. This second programme in the series follows the work of Scotland Yard's Paedophile Unit as its detectives conduct investigations, gather evidence and infiltrate paedophile rings to close down their operations.
