The number of children in Scotland's primary, secondary and special schools has fallen by 8,300 since September 2003. The biggest decrease was in the primary sector, where enrolment dropped by 7,700 to 397,852. School rolls are expected to face a 14 per cent drop by 2014, as Scotland's birth rate falls.
