Catching and throwing
Some children seem to have always known how to throw and catch while others take longer to develop these skills. Standing still while someone throws a ball at you and then having to fetch it when you miss or fumble the catch is not the most encouraging introduction to ball play. The lower the child's bottom is to the ground the easier it will be to catch the ball because a low centre of gravity increases stability, so organise younger children in a sitting circle when you start throwing and catching sessions and move on to standing only when they have gained confidence.
