The changing role of teaching assistants is giving the Department for Education and Skills plenty to think about. The fourth most popular question asked on the DfES website is, 'I'm a teaching assistant... Can I go on to train as a teacher?' More visitors to the website wanted to find out about this professional transition than asked about bullying or the availability of nurseries and playgroups in their area. The most frequently-asked question was about how to apply for financial help as a higher education student, followed by 'What is the telephone number/address for my Local Education Authority?' and 'I've passed the threshold!
