Position: Manager and owner of ABC Nursery in East Lothian
- How did you feel about winning the inaugural Federation of SmallBusinesses joint award with Jewel and Esk College, Edinburgh?
When the college rang to tell me I was shocked but delighted at the sametime. It's the first time someone in the area has won the award. I justdo my job and without the children and staff I wouldn't be here. Parentsare deciding what to spend the 200 cheque on, which accompaniedthe award.
- Why did you decide to get into childcare?
I took 20 years out looking after my six children, but once my youngeststarted school I didn't want to go back to my old job in a bank and thiswas a great opportunity to do something I really wanted to do.
- Why did you set up the nursery?
While doing my HNC at Jewel and Esk College I spoke to my husband, abusinessman, about setting up a nursery in our own home. We opened it inMay 2005, while I was completing my HNC.
