I agree with such recommendations as shopping early in the day and avoiding weekends if possible. Also, do encourage children to help with the shopping and allow them to make choices in selecting the required items, and it is definitely a good idea to eat before you go, whether adult or child.
However, I disagree with the suggestion that you could allow your child to choose something to eat on entering the store. Surely this encourages them to think it is all right to take something and eat it before paying. This is equal to shoplifting and stealing. As for shopping online, children will lose the opportunity to experience selecting items for themselves and the associated skills such as queuing, consideration for others, and so on.
