Anna May, the manager of Springfield Farm Nursery, near Barnstaple, Devon, held her first information evening last month.
She said, 'I wanted to raise awareness of the early learning goals and help parents understand how their children can learn through play.'
The evening began with talks from Lee Hurrell from North Devon College and Jo Paylor-Sykes, a Foundation Stage advisory teacher. Parents were also given the chance to try spaghetti painting and working with playdough.
Mrs May said the talks were designed to give parents an insight into the training that her staff had been through and how their work fits in with the Foundation Stage.
She added, 'Many parents do not realise the planning that goes into these activities and how each activity can have a direct impact on their child's development.'
Parent Jane Harris said that listening to the talks made her 'feel confident in the nursery's knowledge of childcare'. She said, 'It's reassuring to know that the people looking after your children are fully qualified.' She said the evening had given her the 'perfect opportunity to learn about what they do and why they do it'.
Ana Simons, training manager at Zero/14-Plus, Devon County Council's rebranded EYDCP, said, 'Our work with Springfield Farm Nursery is part of an ongoing drive to improve quality. We offer curriculum training to all early years settings in the area and we run regular support meetings.'
