Individuals, groups of young people and voluntary organisations can now apply for grants from the 200m Young People's Fund for projects that support 11- to 25-year-olds out of school and during holidays.
The three-year funding programme is designed to support the outcomes of being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and overcoming socio-economic disadvantage.
Feedback from a consultation which took place in April revealed that young people wanted 'somewhere to go and something to do'.
Anne Longfield, chief executive of 4Children, said, 'With 80 per cent of young people saying there's nothing for them locally and 70 per cent citing this as a reason teenagers drift into crime, it's essential we place serious investment into support for young people, in consultation with them, within every community.'
