Out-of-school campaign grows

* A campaign to set up out-of-school provision for 11- to 16-year-olds, managed by the Kids' Clubs Network, has reported that it now has more than 300 clubs in development. Clubs belonging to the Make Space network can apply for a grant of up to 15,000 from the Make Space development fund, which has backing of 2.5m available. Network members are committed to meeting the Make Space criteria, which includes providing separate spaces for young people to relax and socialise, take part in activities and study. The campaign is supported by the Nestle Trust.

Network members are committed to meeting the Make Space criteria, which includes providing separate spaces for young people to relax and socialise, take part in activities and study. The campaign is supported by the Nestle Trust.

Among the clubs that have benefited from Make Space funding is the Vassall Ward Youth Forum in Brixton, London (pictured above), which was recently awarded 5,000 to purchase new computers and IT equipment that will be used for children to do homework and produce a regular newsletter, and for the summer activity programme. The club is led by a Youth Forum of ten young people who meet every week to discuss ideas for the club's development and other community projects.
