The Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development has been conducting a review of early childhood education and care in 20 of its member states, including the UK. This conference will reveal the main results debate future directions for UK policy and what we can learn from participation in this study.

Book-based reading games (Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1)

This course will give participants the opportunity to explore meaningful, contextualised ways of helping children with strategies for acquiring a bank of familiar words that can be read on sight, and decoding unknown texts. Careful consideration will be given as to how games can be used to support the requirements of the NLS at text, sentence and word level.

Using poetry in the Foundation Stage and KS1

This practical one-day course will look at ways of involving young children with poetry, song and rhyme, including performance, props, puppets and drama, and working on ways to build on children's existing knowledge of spoken language.
