Linda Baston-Pitt, director of the Old School House Day Nursery nearNewmarket, was greeted as one of the country's leading entrepreneurs byPrime Minister Gordon Brown and Lord Mandelson at a special reception atNumber 10 Downing Street. Ms Baston-Pitt said, 'This meeting provided anideal opportunity to raise and discuss the importance of the childcaresector and the support required in order to remain sustainable andthrive in the current downturn.'

Supportive staff

First Steps Childcare Club in Hythe, Kent, held a fundraising fete toraise money for one of their children, Caitland Butler, who has beendiagnosed with leukaemia. Staff also ran the Race for Life and thenursery manager did a parachute jump, raising a total of 1,438for Caitland and her family.
