More than 40 British children who cut, fractured or severed their fingers in the hinge of Maclaren's collapsible pushchairs are expected to receive payments of between £2,500 and £10,000, depending on the severity of their injuries. Maclaren said the compensation was not an admission of liability but it took children's safety seriously. Last year, the company recalled a million buggies in America following reports that children's fingers had been injured in the hinges, while insisting that UK buggies were not affected. Shortly after, more than 40 families in the UK contacted solicitors to start proceedings.
