* Children's communication charity I CAN is publishing a series of discussion papers to cover the latest research, publications and practice innovation in communication development and disability. The I CAN Talk papers aim to provide practical, evidence-based solutions. The first paper, Communication Disability and Literacy Difficulties, is already released and another will be available in August, on www.ican.org.uk. * I CAN has expanded the Talking Point website with two new features.

* I CAN has expanded the Talking Point website with two new features.

Parent Point offers an interactive message board, downloadable songs and factsheets in seven languages as well as valuable information on other charities. Talking Links is a database enabling a postcode search for local communication services for parents.

* Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence (ERIC) is a charity specialising in helping practitioners and parents to deal with continence, particularly in regard to disabled children. As well as a catalogue of publications and resources, ERIC runs a helpline (0845 370 8008), regular seminars and in-house training. Visit www.eric.org.uk. * The National Centre for Social Research has carried out a study of 8,000 parents entitled Parents' Use, Views and Experience of Childcare and Early Years Provision, available at http://tinyurl.com/kpzor.

* Issue 1 of Policy in Practice, a series of free briefing sheets to help childcare providers support extended schools, can be ordered on 020 7512 2100 or downloaded at www.teachernet. gov.uk/extendedschools.

* A new factsheet, Play and Health, has been published by the Children's Play Information Service. It outlines the extent to which the Government has acknowledged the value of play in children's health and describes some of the underpinning evidence to support these developments. CPIS is a national information service on children's play funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and based at the National Children's Bureau Library. * The DfES is holding a series of events in May and June to launch the new resource, Implementing the Disability Discrimination Act in schools and early years settings, to help schools and local authorities implement the reasonable adjustments duty and planning duty they have under part four of the Disability Discrimination Act. It is intended to provide guidance for local authorities on increasing access to early years settings for very young disabled children.
