
Katie Wheeler and John Meehan say they would never have known the truth about what happened to their nine-month-old daughter in May 2022 had it not have been for the CCTV.
They have launched a campaign for their daughter, known as Gigi, which calls for CCTV to be made compulsory in all nurseries to ensure children do not come to harm.
Their call is backed by the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for education, children and families, Munira Wilson MP.
Wheeler (pictured) told Nursery World, ‘We know that the vast majority of nursery workers and managers work tirelessly, often in difficult circumstances, to ensure that their nurseries provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children in their care. However, the potential consequences of a failure in safeguarding, particularly where that failure concerns safe sleep, are so catastrophic that we must all look to take every measure we can to ensure that children do not come to harm at nursery.
